Men's Hockey Stunned Late By Dartmouth, 5-4
November 04, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
A frantic start and a frantic finish bookended a spirited game between Princeton and Dartmouth which went down to the wire before the Big Green escaped with a 5-4 win.
Â
Jaxson Ezman scored for Princeton 1:51 left to bring the Tigers even a 4-4, but a CJ Foley goal with 56 seconds left was the deciding marker despite one last push from the Tigers.
Â
Arthur Smith, called into relief action in goal following an injury to starter Ethan Pearson late in the first period, made 26 saves while allowing three goals – two of which came on the power play.
Â
Things got intense real quick at Thompson Arena as CJ Foley scored for the Big Green 2:52 into the game, resulting in the Dartmouth fans littering the ice with tennis balls and other various projectiles.
Â
The delay of multiple minutes led to a penalty on the Big Green for delay of game, and Kai Daniells needed just 0:39 of that power play to redirect a Nick Seitz shot from the high slot and tie the game at 1-1.
Â
This time, it took the Tigers just 0:18 to score on the man advantage as Tyler Rubin tracked the rebound of a Nick Seitz shot and fired it home to tie the game at 2-2.
Â
The Big Green tested Smith early and often in the second period, scoring twice on the power play in the first 5:59 of the stanza to take a 4-2 lead. That surge was part of a Big Green push which saw the hosts outshoot Princeton, 15-4, in the second period and take that 4-2 lead to the third.
Â
Ian Murphy brought Princeton within one with his first of the season 0:44 into the third period, taking a Nick Seitz pass – his third assist of the game – and firing a snapshot through Cooper Black.

Dartmouth would take a 2-1 lead less than a minute later when Luke Haymes stuffed home a wraparound attempt. Once again, the fans tossed projectiles on the ice after the goal which led to a delay of game penalty on the Big Green – one that would also be costly.Officially On The Scoresheet!
