Men's Volleyball Downed by No. 5 Grand Canyon University

Phoenix, AZ - The Princeton men's volleyball team played a hard-fought match against No. 5 Grand Canyon University on Friday night in GCU Arena, but ultimately fell short to the non-conference opponent, 0-3 (25-27,22-25,21-25).
James Hartley led the match in kills with 10, and Henry Wedbush continues to lead the team in assists, totaling 30 against the GCU Lopes.
Defensively, Ryan Vena came up with a pair of blocks and James Hartley recorded four digs.
Set One
The first set saw an early lead and strong start from Princeton. The Tigers went ahead at 6-4 thanks to a pair of Nate Thompson kills.
GCU battled point for point with Princeton up until the first set was tied at 20-20. GCU took the lead thanks to several Tiger errors and Lope kills, but the set found itself tied again at 24-24.
Despite a James Hartley kill, GCU managed to win an evenly matched opening set, 27-25.
Set Two
In set two, Princeton put up another strong fight.
Princeton jumped ahead of the Lopes early at 6-3 but the Lopes managed to close the gap trailing 6-11.
Princeton stayed ahead thanks to kills from Ben Harrington, Henry Wedbush, and Ryan Vena, but the Lopes fought back to tie things up at 20-20.
James Hartley nabbed two kills to help the Tigers, but the Lopes were able to outscore Princeton 25-22 to take set two and stay in the lead.
Set Three
The third set was another back-and-forth scoring battle for both Princeton and GCU. A Nate Thompson kill tied things up 10-10, and the Tigers continued to lock in.
Soon after a three-point scoring run by the Lopes, GCU went ahead 16-12.
Despite a scoring streak from the Tigers that featured a Harrington kill, Nyherowo Omene service ace, and Hartley kill, the Lopes were able to maintain the lead to take set three 25-21 and win the match 3-0.
