Fencers Finish National Runner-Up, Earn 11 All-American Honors

Posting its best team finish since 2014, the Princeton fencing teams took second in the combined team standings at the NCAA Championships as the event wrapped Sunday at Duke.
Between the men's and women's teams, the Tigers posted 175 pool-play wins, behind only Notre Dame's 188. The Tigers' total was 19 clear of third-place Columbia (156) with Harvard fourth at 134. The second-place finish is among the four best finishes in the era of the combined men's/women's team title, along with second-place finishes in 2012 and 2014 and the 2013 NCAA title.
Including the men's competition that wrapped Friday, Princeton fencers earned 11 All-American honors among its 12-fencer contingent. Six Tigers made their weapon semifinals and three were weapon finalists.
Mohamed Hamza finished his Tiger career Friday by making the men's foil final, and five Tigers on the women's side joined him on Sunday in making the top four in their weapons to stand two wins from an NCAA title.
In the épée competition, Jessica Lin finished runner-up and Hadley Husisian tied for third. Champion Eszter Muhari of Notre Dame defeated both Tigers on the way to the title, defeating Husisian 15-7 in the semis and Lin 15-10 in the final.
In the foil competition, May Tieu finished runner-up with defending NCAA champion Maia Weintraub tying for third. Harvard's Lauren Scruggs felled both Tigers in winning the title, defeating Weintraub 15-9 in the semis and Tieu 15-7 in the final.
The saber competition saw Chloe Fox-Gitomer make the semis before falling 15-7 to eventual champion Nora Burke of Columbia.
