McMeekin, Mackesy Sweep Ivy Weekly Honors

IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT TICKETS
When you do something with the Princeton men's lacrosse team that nobody other than Michael Sowers has ever done before, you know it has to be a pretty amazing achievement. Such was the case this past weekend for Princeton sophomore Coulter Mackesy.
Also, when you're honored by the Ivy League one week and then have an even better performance the next, odds are you have a shot at back-to-back recognitions. Such was the case this past weekend for Princeton freshman Andrew McMeekin.
Mackesy and McMeekin swept the Ivy League's weekly honors, as Mackesy was named the Player of the Week for the third time this season and McMeekin was his second straight Rookie of the Week honor. Both played huge roles as Princeton defeated Harvard 17-11 this past Saturday on Sherrerd Field.
Mackesy tied his career highs with eight goals and 10 points, and in doing so joined Sowers as the only Princeton players ever with two career games of at least 10 points (Sowers had five). Against the Crimson, Mackesy scored four goals during Princeton's 8-0 first half run to take control of the game while also moving past the 100-career point mark for his career, becoming the fifth Princeton player to do so before the end of his sophomore year. Mackesy now leads Division I in points per game with 5.91.
McMeekin was honored again after his 14 for 25 face-off, 10 ground ball performance against Harvard. McMeekin is now 25 for 48 with 17 ground balls the last two weeks after being 12 for 26 with six ground balls on the year prior to that.Â
Princeton's win over Harvard and Cornell's win over Brown sets up a showdown in Ithaca Saturday at noon for the outright Ivy League championship. Princeton will play in the Ivy League semifinals May 5 at Columbia, either as the No. 1 seed against the winner of this Saturday's Yale-Harvard game at 6 or as the No. 3 seed against Penn at 8:30.
