Schreiber's Game-Winner Gives Archers PLL Title

As late-game championship-winning goals go, this one was 96 seconds off of Tom Schreiber's career best. It didn't make it any less impressive as Captain America added to his legendary status.
Schreiber picked up a ground ball and rilfed a shot into the back of the net that just beat the shot clock for what proved to be the game-winner in Sunday's Premier Lacrosse League championship game as his Archers held off a massive comeback by the Waterdogs to win 15-14 at Suburu Park outside Philadelphia. For a player who routinely draws oohs and aahs from the crowd whenever he touches the ball, this shot was even more amazing than most, as it went from the ground to his stick to the back of the net in a blink, all in a very high-pressure moment.
The Archers featured another Princeton alum, Ryan Ambler, and a coaching staff led by head man Chris Bates, the former Tiger head coach, and assistant coach Brian Kavanagh, a former Princeton goalie. Schreiber has now won two World Championships, one Major League Lacrosse championship and one Premier Lacrosse League championship.
The MVP of the PLL regular season, Schreiber had two goals in the final, while Ambler had two that were disallowed. The Waterdogs featured two other Princeton alums, Michael Sowers, who had two goals and two assists in the final, and Zach Currier, who had two goals and eight ground balls. The Waterdogs were trying to repeat their 2022 championship.

"He hadn't yet won a PLL Championship, I know I read an article on whether this was a legacy game for Tom Schreiber. I think Tom Schreiber's legacy was cemented long before this game, but he certainly cemented it with that goal."Â
Schreiber's wild, and winning, play came with 1:37 left in the fourth quarter, snapping a 14-14 tie in a game in which the Archers led 8-2 at one point.
