Men's Hockey Falls At No. 14/15 Cornell
January 19, 2024 | Men's Ice Hockey
A hat trick from Jonathan Castagna propelled No. 14/15 Cornell to a 6-2 win over Princeton in an Ivy League and ECAC matchup at Lynah Rink.
Â
David Jacobs had a power-play goal for the Tigers, part of a two-point night. Ethan Pearson made 29 saves in goal.
Â
David Jacobs tied the game at 1-1 just past the midway mark of the second period, finishing off a give-and-go with Ian Murphy on the power play 10:38 into the second frame.
Â
Cornell would extend its lead to 4-1 with 8:56 remaining in the third period via a Jack O'Leary goal following an unfortunate sequence at the Cornell blue line where a pair of Princeton players collided and allowed a Big Red 3-on-2 to develop. O'Leary would take a feed from Sullivan Mack and need an extra second to corral it – a pause that was helpful as it waited out a diving save attempt from Pearson.
Â
Nick Marciano would get one back for Princeton with 5:18 remaining, sending a wrister through a screen from the point to score his second goal of the season.

The Tigers close the road trip at Colgate on January 20, faceoff with the Raiders is set for 7 p.m.

Nick DeSantis opened the scoring 5:22 in as the Big Red caught the Tigers in a line change with a quick transition pass. The sequence led to a quick 2-on-1 where DeSantis broke open enough to beat the glove for a 1-0 Cornell lead.Pearso To The Post!

The Big Red countered quickly, though, scoring twice in a span of 31 seconds in the minute after Jacobs had tied the game. Jonathan Castagna had both goals for the Big Red, the first a second effort off a faceoff when the original Cornell shot had been blocked. Moments later, he broke down the right side and cut back towards the middle before sending a shot into the far top corner.Regroup & Attack!
