Casey Dowd Named Assistant Coach For Princeton Men's Lacrosse
January 30, 2024 | Men's Lacrosse
The Princeton men's lacrosse face-off game has gotten a big boost from the newest addition to the program.
Casey Dowd, one of the best face-off men in NCAA Division I history and already an accomplished coach of the position, has joined Matt Madalon's in advance of the 2024 season. He will be primarily responsible for coaching the team's face-off unit, which returns every player who took a draw a year ago.
"We're thrilled to have Casey with us," says Madalon, whose staff for 2024 includes offensive coordinator Jim Mitchell and defensive coordinator Jeremy Hirsch, in addition to Dowd. "When we had an opening, we knew immediately that Casey would be a perfect fit. What he brings to our face-off group, with our returning guys and the talent we have on the wings, will be invaluable.
Dowd comes to Princeton after spending seven years on the staff at Colby in the NESCAC. He also coached at Division II power Mercyhurst for one year.
His playing career saw him win the MAAC Face-Off Specialist of the Year as a senior in 2014, when he went 230 for 391 with three goals, one assist and 151 ground balls while helping the Saints to the NCAA tournament. He would finish his career going 775 for 1,420 with 472 ground balls, all of which are Siena records and all of which rank him in the top 15 in NCAA Division I history. After graduating, he played for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse.
"This is a great opportunity for me," Dowd says. "I couldn't be more excited about being a part of this team and working with this coaching staff. We have some great athletes in our face-off game, and I'm looking forward to helping them become the most impactful players they can be. With Princeton's success the last two years and with the talent we have this year, I can't wait to get started."
Dowd's wife Renee is the head coach of the Bates women's lacrosse team. He replaces Chris Aslanian, who left the coaching profession after last season.
