Penn Holds Off Princeton Rally as Tigers' CSA Run Ends in Semifinals
March 02, 2024 | Men's Squash
It was almost deja vu for the No. 2-ranked Princeton men's squash team on Saturday in the CSA semifinals against No. 3 Penn, but the Quakers got the one match they needed to hold off the Tiger rally and advance to Sunday's final with a 5-4 win.
Saturday's semifinal came three weeks after Princeton rallied from being down 4-1 to win 5-4 and take a share of the Ivy League title on the final day of matches in Jadwin Gym's history.
At the Specter Squash Center in Philadelphia, Princeton again found itself down 4-1, with Gordon Lam's win at ninth position as the only one going to the Tigers of the first five off court, but the comeback try began when Alhassan Khalil won in five games against Dana Sentry at seventh position and Alastair Cho followed with a five-game win over Abdelrahman Dweek at fifth to make it 3-2.
At second, Hollis Robertson won his first game against Salman Khalil and was close to taking a 2-1 lead before Khalil won the third game, 12-10. Khalil then ended the Tiger come-from-behind bid with an 11-6 win in the fourth game. At eighth, Zain Ahmed won in thre games to make the 5-4 final.
