Tristan Whitfield Picks Up First Career EIVA Weekly Award

PRINCETON, NJ - After this week's sole match at NJIT, Princeton volleyball's Tristan Whitfield has been named the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week. This becomes the freshman's first EIVA weekly award recognition of the season as well as the first of his collegiate career.

Against NJIT on Saturday evening, Whitfield totaled a team-high 7 block assists accompanied by 2 digs. The freshman also contributed 6 kills on a .400 hitting percentage and a total of 9.5 points. In three out of the last four games, Whitfield has accumulated seven blocks each time, and in six out of his last eight matches, he has managed at least five blocks. His average of 1.35 blocks per set tops the EIVA rankings, and nationally, it would rank third. However, but he has not played enough of Princeton's sets this season to qualify nationally.

At this point in the season, Whitfield tops the Tigers' team with a total of 54.0 blocks for this season, along with 16 digs. Additionally, he has accumulated 75.0 total points and achieved 41 kills with an impressive hitting percentage of .392.
