Fencers to Compete Saturday at NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals
March 04, 2024 | General, Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
The final competition before the NCAA Championships is set for Saturday at Drew University where the Princeton fencing teams will compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional.
Competition at Drew will begin at 10 a.m. for épée and foil, 1 p.m. for women's saber and 2 p.m. for men's saber. Results will be available here.
Princeton has two fencers who have won NCAA regional titles previously, with épée Tristan Szapary and saber Ronald Anglade entering Saturday's meet as defending champions in their weapon.
Performance at the NCAA regional counts for 60 percent of the formula for NCAA Championships qualification, while regular-season results count for 40 percent. The Mid-Atlantic/South region has seven bids in each weapon except women's épée, where it has six. There are also two at-large berths in each weapon nationally, across the four regions.
Princeton will compete with fencers from Drew, Duke, FDU (women), Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Lafayette, NJIT, North Carolina, Penn, Penn State, Stevens, Temple (women) and Wagner
Selections for the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 21-24 at Ohio State, will be announced next Tuesday, March 12.
