
Women’s Swimming & Diving Splits Day Versus Penn State, Virginia Tech

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA- Heidi Smithwick picked up the first win for the Princeton women's swimming and diving team in the 200 butterfly. Ela Noble followed that up with a 50 freestyle victory. Charlotte Martinkus was the third individual winner for the Tigers with a first place finish on the 1-meter board in Princeton's tri-meet versus Penn State and Virginia Tech.
The Tigers defeated Penn State 176.5-121.5 but came up short to Virginia Tech 191-109.
The 200 medley relay team of Alexa Pappas, Smithwick, Sabrina Johnston and Ela Noble finished second to start the day.
Johnston touched the wall second just behind Virginia Tech's swimmer in the 100 backstroke.
Jenna Walters and Noble went 3-4 in the 100 freestyle coming in at 50:20 and 50:36 respectively.
Grace Black collected second place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.21. Meg Wheeler and Natalie Farquhar came in right behind Black at fourth and fifth in the event.
In the 200 breaststroke, Eliza Brown earned a third place finish before Smithwick finished second in the 500 freestyle.
Johnston and Eleanor Sun picked up a 3-4 final placement in the 100 butterfly.
Dakota Tucker came in second in the 200 IM with Wheeler coming in fourth.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Johnston, Noble, Sun and Farquhar touched second to finish off the day.
Princeton will head to New Haven, Conn. for the annual H-Y-P meet from Jan.31-Feb. 1.
