Women's Swimming & Diving Picks Up Top Finishes In Four Events On Day 1 Of H-Y-P
January 31, 2025 | Women's Swimming and Diving
The Ivy League women's swimming and diving championships are less than three weeks away and will be held in the huge expanse that is DeNunzio Pool. A major tune-up for those championships is being held this weekend in a much different venue, the pool at Kiphuth Exhibition Pool, the Gothic structure at Yale University that is nearly 100 years old.
That backdrop features the annual HYP meet, which began Friday and continues Saturday. Day 1 saw the Harvard women pull out to an 86-64 lead over Princeton and an 83-67 lead over Yale, while Princeton outpointed Yale 84-66 after Friday's events.
Princeton's best event was the 200 butterfly, where Eleanor Sun (1:56.28) and Heidi Smithwick (1:56.87) finished first and second. Ela Noble won the 50 free in 22.70, followed by teammate Veronique Rossouw in third at 23.06.
The night began with a second-place Princeton finish in the 200 free relay with Alexa Pappas, Smithwick, Edie Simecek and Noble. Dakota Tucker finished second in the 1,000 freestyle and won the 400 individual medley, while Jenna Walters (1:48.07 in the 200 free) and Isabella Korbly (53.81 in the 100 back) also had second-place finishes for the Tigers.
