Croddick, Burns Named Ivy Players Of The Week
February 17, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
The decision to move the Princeton-Penn State men's lacrosse game inside Holuba Hall Saturday brought with it the question of how well Tiger goalie Ryan Croddick would see the ball. This was his first career start, and now it was going to be played under indoor lights, with green flourescent lacrosse balls.
As it turned out, Croddick was seeing the ball 20-20. Or is that 21-21?
Croddick made 21 saves, setting the record for the most by a Tiger goalie in his first career start, leading Princeton to an 11-10 win over Penn State. Croddick, who had five career saves entering the game in two years as the backup, made 13 saves in the second half, including six in the fourth quarter. On top of that, he also had an assist after making a save while on his back, jumping up and firing to midfield to Jackson Green.
His performance earned him the Ivy League's first Defensive Player of the Week award for the 2025 season. It would be a Princeton sweep of the week's awards, as Colin Burns was the Offensive Player of the Week after he scored four goals, including the game-winner in overtime. It was the second straight opening day in which Burns, a sophomore, had four goals.
Princeton is ranked fifth this week in the Kane Division I Media Poll. Up next for the Tigers is the home opener against No. 2 Maryland Saturday at noon, which will be followed by a trip to No. 7 Duke and No. 9 North Carolina.
