Black History Month Feature: Fadima Tall
February 25, 2025 | Women's Basketball, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Princeton Athletics is proud to celebrate the heritage and culture of our Black student-athletes during Black History Month! As part of this celebration, we will be featuring Q&As with members of Princeton's Black Student-Athlete Collective.
After appearing in 15 games last season during Princeton's Ivy League championship season, Fadima Tall has taken on a starting role this season with 22 starts for the women's basketball team to date. She is averaging 9.6 points-per-game and 6.1 rebounds-per-game for the Tigers.
How do you celebrate Black History Month, and what does it mean to you both personally and professionally?
I celebrate Black History Month by talking about things that Black people are doing both here on campus and around the world and amplifying them to the best of my ability. Being able to let even just one person know about the work we do is so important to me.
What role have your family and community played in supporting your athletic career?
My family is the reason why I am even able to be at Princeton, and they have been my motivators to pursue my sport at this level.
Who are some Black History innovators or leaders outside your family that you draw inspiration from, and what about that person inspires you?
Right now it is Derrick A Bell, the father of Critical Race Theory. He made the foundation for a study that is so important to Black history and such an amalgamation of knowledge.
How do you leverage your platform as an athlete to advocate for or support Black communities?
I use my role to make sure that Black Student Athletes have a community where they feel like they are represented and uplifted in everything they do.
What message would you like to share with other African American youth who aspire to pursue athletics?
I would like other young Black men and women to know that the path is not always lonely, and your hard work and dedication will be rewarded.
