Spring Season Continues For Women's Rugby At West Chester 7s
March 30, 2025 | Women's Rugby
The tournament was highlighted by a 22-14 victory over Navy's B side as the Tigers went 1-3 on the day. Annie Huettel scored twice, as did Celia Watson, Ciara Loughran and Josie Frazer. Ava Gregory scored once for the Tigers.
"It was a great next step for us in our spring season to solidify our 7s plans, patterns and style of play," said Head Coach Josie Ziluca. "Our connection on the field is getting better every week. We had some standout performances from Sofie Grouws defensively, Elizabeth Polubinski putting in some big minutes and proving herself on the field along with a newcomer to the game, Josie Frazer. In her second tournament she made some really good yards on the field, helped her teammates and even held up a try, which in the 7s game doesn't happen too often.
As a team, our tendencies and framework of play are getting better and we're really excited to have some closer scores with certain opponents. Preparing ourselves nicely for our home Emperor 7s Tournament in one week, this coming Sunday. It will see the likes of West Chester, Quinnipiac again, along with Mount St. Mary's, Queens, Harvard and Dartmouth. It's going to be a great home tournament with a great crowd at our wonderful new rugby complex, Haaga House and Rickerson field. We're hoping to see a lot of friends, families and fans out there supporting us for a Sunday full of Rugby 7s.
As a whole, we're moving along really well this season. We've got a lot left. I'm excited to keep getting closer as a team and at the end of the day just become better rugby players."
