Omene Earns Fifth Weekly Award, EIVA Offensive Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Nyherowo Omene was named the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The award comes after a huge weekend for the Tigers in which they swept Harvard at home, with Omene leading the way with 43 kills, 11 digs and 47.5 points.
The award marks back-to-back EIVA weekly awards for the senior, as well as his fifth this season and sixth all-time.
Omene hit 43-15-85 for .329 hitting on the weekend, also making three assists, and three aces.
Defensively, Omene had 16-for-16 reception, also making two blocks to go along with his 11 digs.
In game one on Friday, Omene hammered down 18 kills and .424 hitting, making one assist, one ace, 10 receptions, six digs, and one block assist.
On his senior night on Saturday, Omene made 25 kills, while hitting .269 with two aces, two assists, five digs and a solo block.
The South Holland, Ill. native reached his 1000th kill on Friday night, now at 1,032 all-time which puts him eighth nationally across Division I in active career leaders.
Omene has posted double figures in kills in 18 of his 21 matches this season. He has hit 20 or more kills in three matches so far.
Omene currently leads the EIVA in kills (4.25), aces (0.47) and points (5.14) per set and is second in hitting percentage (.333).
Nationally, he ranks third in points, sixth in kills and 16th in aces per set.
Omene and the Tigers will hit the road this weekend for an EIVA series with Penn State. Holding a share of the conference regular season championship, the Tigers need to win one match to clinch the title outright and host the EIVA tournament next week. The Tigers and the Nittany Lions will face off at 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday in University Park.
