Ryan Vena Named EIVA Defensive Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Ryan Vena was named the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The award comes after Vena posted helped the Tigers defeat Penn State 3-1 on Friday to clinch the EIVA regular season title, as the junior posted five kills for .333 hitting, two aces, two digs, and nine blocks - including one solo.
The award is Vena's first of his career.
Vena ranks eighth in the EIVA with 0.91 blocks per set and a total of 72.0. Vena also has a league-high .467 hitting percentage on the season.
With 22 total and a team second-best, Vena also ranks ninth in the league in service aces with 0.28 a set.
Along with the regular season title, the Tigers clinched hosting rights for the EIVA tournament with their win on Friday.
The tournament will take place April 23-26 in Dillon Gym, with the No. 1 seeded Tigers taking on the winner of George Mason vs Charleston in the semifinals on April 24. The first serve is set for 5 p.m.
