PRINCETON, N.J. – Nyherowo Omene was named EIVA Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The award comes after Omene helped Princeton to a sweep of George Mason this weekend, in which the senior posted 26 kills, 18 digs and nine blocks.
The award is Omene's fourth weekly award this season and fifth of his career.
Omene hit 26-12-61 on the weekend for .230 and a team-high 35.5 points. He also added five aces, as the EIVA active career leader brings his career total to 132 and his season average to a league-best 0.48/s.
Stuffing the stat sheet, Omene logged 18 digs on the weekend, also making nine blocks as the Tigers held George Mason to just .088 hitting.
On Friday against the Patriots, he nearly posted a triple-double in the Tigers' 3-1 win with 18 kills, two aces, two assists, 11 digs and seven blocks.
On Saturday, Omene added eight kills, three aces, two assists, seven digs and two blocks.
The South Holland, Ill. native currently leads the EIVA in points per set with 5.05, also ranking second in hitting percentage (.334) and kills per set (4.12).
Omene was named an EIVA preseason player to watch after being named to the All-EIVA First Team last season.
In 2024, Omene was among the leaders for Princeton in three stat categories, recording a second-best 311 kills and 36 service aces while notching a fourth-best 77 digs.
Omene and the Tigers will be back in action on Friday as they host Harvard for a two-game series in Dillon Gym, with first serves at 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday. Saturday will also mark senior day, as the Tigers honor Omene and fellow '25 classmate Henry Wedbush at their final regular season home game.
