Mackesy Is Fourth Overall Pick In PLL Draft
May 06, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
Coulter Mackesy's wait to hear his name called in the Premier Lacrosse League draft Tuesday night was not a long one. Mackesy, who is tied for the Princeton career record for goals, was selected fourth overall in the first round by the Boston Cannons.
Mackesy's wait was just a shade longer than another Princetonian, Sam English, who graduated in 2023. English, who has been playing as a grad student at Syracuse, was chosen with the third pick by California Redwoods.
Mackesy has scored 40 goals and added 15 assists this season, moving him to 163 for his career, tied with Jesse Hubbard for the program record. He is also third all-time in points at Princeton with 240, seven away from tying Kevin Lowe for second. Both Hubbard and Lowe are in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
Princeton's team watched the first round of the draft together after practice, and they erupted when Mackesy's name was called. Mackesy will fill a need with the Cannons for a lefthander attackman.
"It was so awesome to share it with everyone," Mackesy said. "I have the best teammates in the world. I'm really excited, though there is still work to be done here obviously."
Princeton is the No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament, and the Tigers will host Towson Saturday at 2:30 in the opening round. Tickets are available HERE.
Pace Billings, another Princeton alum who spent this season as a grad transfer at Michigan, was the 19th pick of the draft, taken in the third round by the Denver Outlaws.
