Jack Stahl Named Ivy League Defensive Player Of The Week
March 09, 2026 | Men's Lacrosse
It's possible that the Princeton men's lacrosse program has never had a player who shuns the spotlight more than Jack Stahl. Unfortunately for him and the way he is playing, that spotlight is going to find him.Â
Stahl once again locked up an All-American attackman, this time Rutgers' Colin Kurdyla, whom he held to a single goal, one that came when the Tigers had a 14-goal lead at the time in Princeton's 20-9 win. Stahl's latest performance earned him the Ivy League's Defensive Player of the Week Award.Â
Stahl began this season where he ended last season, as Princeton's top longstick midfielder. After an opening day loss to Penn State, Stahl was moved to close defense, and Princeton has responded by taking down nationally ranked Maryland, Syracuse, North Carolina and Rutgers since. The Tigers have allowed 9.3 goals per game in those four games after giving up 13 to Penn State.Â
For his part, Stahl has had to guard four straight All-Americans. He held Kurdyla, who came in with 14 goals on the season, to a single goal (which came with Princeton up 19-5) on six shots, bringing his total the last three games — against Kurdyla, Syracuse's Joey Spallina and UNC's Owen Duffy — to two goals allowed on 20 shots, with five caused turnovers of his own mixed in.Â
Princeton remained No. 3 in all three polls this week, as the top four of Notre Dame, Richmond, Princeton and Harvard did not change. The Tigers will open their Ivy League season this Saturday in New Haven against Yale, with the opening face-off at noon.Â
