PRINCETON, N.J. -- Tristan Whitfield was named the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, marking his second weekly award this season.
The honor comes after Whitfield came up big in two must-win matches this weekend, as Princeton secured a spot in the EIVA Tournament with a series sweep over Harvard.
In Cambridge, Mass., Whitfield hit 14-2-21 on the weekend for an impressive .571, also tallying three assists. Making two solo blocks and seven block assists, he also added four digs for a total of 19.5 points.
Consistent, Whitfield made seven kills, one solo block and three BAs on Friday night, before nearly repeating the feat with another seven kills, one solo and four block assists on Saturday.
His efforts led Princeton to a 3-2 victory on Friday night and a 3-0 sweep on Saturday, helping the Tigers clinch the last spot in the playoffs.
It is the third EIVA Defensive Player of the Week award of his career.
Whitfield and the Tigers, seeded sixth, will face No. 3-seeded George Mason on Wednesday in the EIVA Quarterfinals. With Penn State hosting, the first serve is set for 4:30 p.m. in Rec Hall.
