Mellon and Whitfield Earn All-EIVA Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. – Owen Mellon and Tristan Whitfield received All-EIVA honors as the league announced its end-of-season awards on Tuesday.
Mellon was named to the First Team All-EIVA and Whitfield was named to the Second Team All-EIVA.
Mellon has led the Tigers offensively this season, averaging 3.93 points and 3.45 kills to lead the Tigers and rank fifth in the EIVA in both categories.
With a hitting percentage of .283, he ranks third in the league.
Whitfield, who was named EIVA Defensive Player of the Week yesterday, has been a defensive powerhouse for Princeton, ranks fourth in the EIVA in blocks with 9 solo and 70 assists to his credit for 1.03 a set.
With 114 kills this season, he also boasts a hitting percentage of .469.
In addition to Mellon and Whitfield's honors, 10 Tigers were named to the Academic All-EIVA team in Ambrose Engling, Kyle Gschwend, Nolan Kelly, Austin Kerker, Mason RIce, Matthew Shannon, Whitfield, Jameson Vaccaro, Simon Xiao and Kevin Yang.
The Tigers will begin the postseason action tomorrow with an EIVA quarterfinal matchup against No. 3 seeded George Mason. The first serve is set for 4:30 p.m. in University Park, Pa.
