Colgate Sweeps Women’s Volleyball to Conclude First Weekend

HAMILTON, N.Y. — Colgate used home-court advantage to earn a 3-0 sweep of the Princeton University women's volleyball team Saturday evening at Cotterell Court. Set scores were 21-25, 23-25, 18-25.
The loss concluded the Tigers' weekend at the Colgate Volleyball Classic, as Princeton fell to 0-3 to begin its 2026 season. The Raiders earned their first home win of the season and improved to 2-3 overall.
How It Happened
Jackie Onyechi picked up where she left off Friday, putting down a kill from Sydney Draper to give Princeton the first point of the evening. The Tigers kept the Raiders at bay early, holding at least a three-point advantage on multiple occasions and leading 9-6 through the first 15 points. Princeton then scored three straight on consecutive Colgate attack errors, taking a 12-6 lead on an Ashtyn Sims kill that forced a timeout.
The Tigers led by as many as seven at 14-7 before the Raiders began chipping away at the deficit, scoring eight straight to take a 15-14 lead at the first media timeout. Colgate maintained a one-point advantage before scoring four of the next five points to take a 22-18 lead, prompting another Princeton timeout. The Raiders closed out the set, 25-21, finishing on an 18-7 run.
Princeton opened the second set with a 4-1 lead, but Colgate quickly answered with a 6-3 push to even the score at 7-7, fueled by two kills from Charlotte Goldfeder after she tallied four in the opening set. The Tigers moved back in front on a kill from Ava Harrington and a Colgate attack error from Reese Morgan, taking a 10-9 advantage that was confirmed following a lengthy video review.
Goldfeder continued her strong start with back-to-back kills to put the Raiders ahead, 13-12. The freshman was up to eight kills on 10 attacks at that point. Colgate led 15-13 at the media timeout before Princeton used kills from Shelby Burriss and Sims to pull even at 15-15.
The teams traded points from there, with the Tigers twice pulling within a point at 21-20 and 22-21. Colgate's Tiana Owens then came through with the set-clinching kill to give the Raiders a 2-0 advantage. Princeton hit .387 in the set, recording 15 kills with just three errors.
Princeton battled back in the third set after falling behind by six points at 8-2, using a 12-8 run to pull within two at 16-14. Burriss, Sims and Onyechi each recorded two kills during the stretch. The Raiders, led by four kills from Owens, responded by outscoring the Tigers 9-4 the rest of the way to secure a 25-18 set victory and complete the 3-0 sweep.
Of Note
- Sarah Hom finished with a team-high nine kills, hitting .333 for the match while adding one dig and one block assist.
- Sims added eight kills on a .438 attack percentage, along with two aces and five digs.
- Burriss went 6-for-12 (.417) on the attack and added two block assists.
- Draper recorded at least 20 assists for the third consecutive match to begin her senior campaign, finishing with 24 assists and six digs.
- Draper's six digs were tied with Sydney Bold for the team lead.
- Colgate had three players record double-digit kills, with 11 apiece from Owens and Jordyn Moore and 10 from Goldfeder.
