Off the Courts:
William has always had an interest in human rights and policy, and at the urging of upperclassmen, he reached out to the Office of International Programs and qualified for an internship at the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR). Per the OIP web site:
About: DIHR is a Danish independent national human rights institution, accredited in accordance with the UN Paris Principles, and has, for the last three decades, implemented programs and projects covering nearly all aspects of human rights in Denmark and in developing and transitional countries around the world. DIHR works from a partnership approach, which means that all activity is designed and implemented by or in close collaboration with partner institutions, which provides IIP interns the opportunity to engage directly with other institutions. Priority areas for DIHR include justice, legal reform and rule of law and freedoms relating to civil society.
Intern Responsibilities: IIP interns, depending on needs, interests, and qualifications, will assist staff and management in a wide range of tasks related to program planning and implementation. All work is related to one or thematic or geographic areas of human rights. This may include research and/or analysis e.g. in the form of baseline studies.
William on William:
""I have been interested in social phenomenon as a whole. I enjoy social psychology. Human rights is somewhat similar, and recently, I have come more interested in that. I have had upperclassmen tell me I have to make use of the opportunities Princeton has, including finding internships abroad."
