Princeton Lacks Enthusiasm in Opening Loss

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton Tiger men's soccer team lost its season opener this evening against Lehigh by a score of 1-0. The Tigers (0-1) could not rebound from a lack luster first half performance.
Lehigh (2-0-1) scored in the 33rd minute of the first half on a goal by Evan Bruno. Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Greszczak and Brady Ryan assisted on the breakaway score. Princeton showed the effects of the season's first game in the opening half.
"I'm disappointed with the way we started out," said Princeton head coach Jim Barlow following the match. "You can not give up an early goal to a team like Lehigh and expect to come back. They have a talented goalkeeper. We wanted to jump on them in the first half but we couldn't get it going."
The Tigers came out with a spring in their step in the second half. Scoring but chances by Matt Behncke (So., Williamsburg, Va.) and Lucas Moskowitz (So., Storrs, Conn.) were batted away by Greszczak who made six saves on the night. Princeton out shot the Mountain Hawks by a total of 13-9. Freshman goalkeeper Jason White (Maple Glen, Pa.) made four saved for the Tigers. A very physical contest, both teams ended the game with 15 fouls.
Princeton returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 16 when it hosts Fairleigh-Dickinson at 7:30 at Lourie-Love Field.
