Princeton Wins Second-Consecutive Ivy League Tournament Championship
November 16, 2025 | Men's Soccer
PRINCETON, N.J. – Defeating no. 2-seeded Cornell 2-0, the no. 1 seeded Princeton men's soccer team won the 2025 Ivy League Tournament, marking the program's second-consecutive tournament win and the first time a team has won both the men's soccer Ivy Championship and the Ivy Tournament in the same season.
Led by a sixth minute goal from Sam Vigilante, an 88th minute goal by Liam Beckwith, and a penalty kick save from Andrew Samuels to keep the Big Red shut out, the Tigers took the victory in front of a roaring Roberts Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Princeton clinches an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with the selection show tomorrow at 1 p.m.
"Today was another really hard-fought, tough game. Our guys found a way to get the first goal, which was huge, held on in some tough moments when Cornell had it going really well, relied on Andrew to make an incredible save on the PK, and then just kept grinding it out until we could get the second goal. Liam scored a great goal at the end. We give our guys a lot of credit for dealing with the tough conditions today and dealing with a really tough opponent." - Head Coach Jim Barlow
How It Happened
The Tigers struck first and early, pressuring Cornell from the whistle.
Just five minutes in, Jack Jasinski launched a direct free kick on-target, forcing a deflection from the Cornell keeper Ryan Friedberg. Picking up the rebound and running it into the box, Beckwith cut a pass back to Vigilante, who lasered it home to put Princeton up 1-0.
Immediately responding with pressure of their own, Cornell was quick on the attack as Adam Schaban took two shots and Campbell Reece added another, but none were on target.
The Tigers answered with an attack of their own, with Beckwith launching a high curling shot that hit the left corner of the crossbar. Finding the rebound, Jackson Martin took a shot, but it went just inches wide of the goal.
Back on defense, Cornell continued to press with Schaban still leading the attack. Just before halftime, a foul in the box resulted in a Big Red penalty kick.
Kasper Wollstein stepped to the spot, shooting low and to the right, but Samuels was there to collect the ball and deny the Big Red with his third penalty save of the year.
With the save, the Tigers kept their 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Coming out of the half, Princeton was all defense as it thwarted each of Cornell's attacks.
In the 59th minute, a shot by Schaban went inches wide of the goal. A few minutes later, Samuels came up with another stop - saving a low center shot by the Big Red's Sam Latona.
As the clock started to wind down, the Tigers, always quick to turn defense into offense, were back in the attacking end with momentum.
Jasinski, taking another direct free kick, forced another save by Friedberg.
Still knocking while staying solid defensively, Princeton continued to create chances.
With just two minutes remaining, Ittycheria sent a quick pass back to Vigilante, who darted it up to Beckwith, who was driving into the box. Taking a high dropping shot, similar to the one he hit the post with earlier in the game, Beckwith found the left side netting to double the Tiger lead and seal the win.
Solidly up 2-0, the clock ran down, with the Tigers standing victorious as they won their second-consecutive Ivy Tournament and back-to-back trophy.
