PRINCETON, N.J. – Coming home with a result from its first road trip of the season, the #23 Princeton men's soccer team downed UMass, 2-0, in Amherst on Monday.

Jackson Martin put the Tigers up with his first of the season in the 28th minute, before first-year Julien Lacher doubled it in the 58th with his first career goal.

Andrew Samuels was in net for the shutout, tallying his third consecutive with four saves in the match.

How It Happened
The game was evenly matched to start, with both sides going end-to-end save an early second-minute shot by Kevin Kelley.

The Tigers' first solid chance of the game came in the 16th minute with a low center shot by Bardia Hormozi, who forced a save by UMass keeper Dean Linden.

Princeton found the go-ahead goal in the 28th minute as a perfectly placed cross from Hormozi found the foot of Martin, who buried it towards the back-left post to make it 1-0.

UMass answered with some momentum late in the half, winning a corner before forcing a save by Samuels to keep it 1-0 with a minute left.

Four seconds before going to the break, however, a high challenge resulted in a second-yellow being shown to the Minutemen's Gayle Taylon, forcing UMass to play the full second half with ten men.

Coming out of the break, UMass was able to hold on briefly before the Tigers added another. Running up the right flank, Roka Tsunehara sent the ball in to Lacher, who threaded the ball through two defenders to find the back post and make it 2-0 Tigers.

Building on that, the Tigers continued the attack with a shot from Hormozi going inches wide of the net minutes later.

Giacomo Gabrielli took a turn too, forcing a pair of saves by Linden in the 62nd and 64th minutes.

As Princeton peppered them with shots, out-shooting UMass 16-4 in the second half despite the shots going 9-3 the other way in the first, the Minutemen tried to take advantage of several chances, forcing two late saves by Samuels.

Still, the Tigers held the momentum as the clock expired with a final score of 2-0.
