Tigers Draw Hofstra, 0-0, In Non-Conference Finale
October 06, 2026 | Men's Soccer
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Despite putting together a solid offensive effort, the Princeton men's soccer team settled for a 0-0 draw against Hofstra in its nonconference finale Tuesday night.
Andrew Samuels was in goal for his sixth shutout of the year, making one save in the contest.
With the draw, Princeton moves to 6-2-3 on the year, while Hofstra moves to 7-2-3.
How It Happened
The Tigers started pressing early, with Jackson Martin finding himself behind an off-line Hofstra keeper Milo Risenhoover before the fifth minute. He sent a shot in towards the far post, but Pride defender Pietro Santi cleared it from the line to keep it scoreless.
Keeping up the energy, Princeton continued to pressure Hofstra, with the next shot on-target coming from Kevin Kelley, but Risenhoover was there again with fast hands to make the stop.
Lucas Ferreira followed up with a header that went just wide, before Julien Lacher upped the pace with a run up the left flank, sending the ball just wide of the goal in the 20th minute. Kelley was nearly there to send the shot in, but it was too quick for him to reach. Less than a minute later, Garry Zhang hit the right post with a shot of his own.
The momentum swung in Princeton's direction again as the clock ticked down to halftime. Lacher won the Tigers a corner in the 35th minute, with Cyrus Klinenberg taking a resulting shot that was blocked.
With one last header attempt by Beckwith, the game went to the break 0-0.
The second half started with more of a back-and-forth between the two sides, with both earning a corner in the first five minutes.
However, regaining their offensive urgency, the Tigers continued their search for a goal. Ben Manfroy and Liam Beckwith each added another attempt near the 60-minute mark, with Beckwith's forcing another save by the Hofstra keeper.
In the 71st minute, it looked like Princeton might break through as Martin sent a header high, but Risenhoover got up to tip it over the net.
Hofstra, capitalizing on the counterattack, sent Axel Ruben the other way. Samuels, off his line, was able to deflect the incoming shot, but Zhang was there to clear it off the line for good measure.
As the game clock approached 90, Princeton fought to find a goal, with Lacher sending a left-footed shot inches wide with eight to go.
With just five to go, Roka Tsunehara sent another one even closer, before Beckwith forced one last save from Risenhoover in the 88th.
One last chance for the Tigers came in the form of a 90th-minute corner, but it would be to no avail as both sides split the points with a 0-0 final.
