PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's lacrosse team were defeated this evening by the United States National Developmental squad 16-3 at the Class of 1952 Stadium. This is the second year the Tigers have faced the Developmental team during the fall, after hosting the US National team in 1997.
The U.S. scored in spurts, beginning with less than two minutes expired in the opening period. Sheehan Stanwick (Georgetown '01) scored her first of three goals at the 28:08 mark. Less than eight minutes later, the U.S. led 4-0. The Tigers picked up the defensive pressure and did not allow a goal over the next 15 minutes. The U.S. extended its lead to 7-0 before Princeton got on the board. Sophomore Lauren Simone (Delran, N.J.) drove the crease and found the back of the net, slipping the ball past keeper Alex Kahoe (Maryland '99).
With nine seconds remaining in the first half, senior co-captain Hilary Maddox (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) took a pass from Mimi Hammerberg (So., Denver, Colo.) to cut Princeton's deficit to 7-2 at intermission. In the second half Maddox scored her second goal of the game off an assist from freshman Whitney Miller (Bishopsville, Md.).
Kate Graw, a native of Severn, Pa., led the U.S. with two goals and two assists. Stanwick tallied three goals and assisted on one.
The Tigers recorded 19 shots on goal, and goalkeeper Laura Field (Sr., Mystic, Conn.) made 10 saves in net.
