WASHINGTON, D.C. - Matt Douglas's goal at 49:30 proved to be the difference as Princeton beat American University 2-0 before a crowd of 802 at Reeve's Field in Washington D.C.
With less than five minutes gone by in the second half, Douglas stole the bal inside the American panalty box, faked out one defender and beat Eagles' goalie Micheal Gorsenger with a low shot from 10 yards out. Princeton would add another goal at 77:25 when Mike Nugent redirected a Kevin Griffin shot past Gorsenger from six yards away.
The goal was Nugent's fifth of the season and takes over the team lead from Matt Behncke.
Jason White recorded four saves on 13 Eagle shots for his fourth shutout of the season. White now ranks sixth on Princeton's all-time list of shutouts in a season.
Princeton played without Griff Behncke who was serving a red card suspension.
