BOSTON, Mass. - Host Harvard scored 1:37 into the match but Princeton notched the equalizer in the 43rd minute and netted the game-winning goal in the 76th minute for a 2-1 victory on a cold and windy day at Ohiri Field.
The Tigers improve to 9-3-1 and extend their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1), while remaining atop the Ivy League standings with a 4-1 league mark. The Crimson is winless in its last six games (0-5-1), and falls to 2-8-2 overall and 1-3 in Ivy play.
Senior back and team captain Chad Adams was the man of the match for Princeton, as he scored the Tigers' first goal and assisted on the second.
Harvard jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the second minute of play when senior forward Will Hench (Marblehead, MA/Phillips Academy) headed in a far-post cross off a corner kick on the left side by classmate Armando Petruccelli (Flushing, NY/Holy Cross). The goal was Hench's second of the year and his first since the season opener back on Sept. 12. However, it would be the only goal the Tigers' defense would allow today. Princeton evened the match at 1-1 at the 42:34 mark, when senior midfielder Brien Wassner made a nice pass to Adams inside the Harvard penalty box and Adams scored from about 12 yards out.
The Tigers, which outshot the Crimson 15-10 in the match, continued to pound away at the Harvard goal before breaking through with the eventual game-winning goal at the 75:08 mark. This time, Adams made the pass, as he found sophomore back Graeme Rein with a bit of space on the right flank. After collecting the pass, Rein unleashed a blistering shot from 30 yards out that sailed past Harvard keeper Mike Meagher and into the back of the net. The goal was the second of the year for Rein, whose first goal was also good for a game-winner (at Brown on Oct. 9, a 2-0 Princeton win).
Princeton now leads the all-time series with Harvard, 34-33-7.
