Annapolis, Md. - The 1999 Princeton-Navy sprint football game couldn't match the drama of the year before.
Princeton fell to Navy 37-0 Friday night in Annapolis, slipping to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the league. Navy improved to a perfect 5-0, 2-0 in the league.
The 1998 matchup saw the Tigers shock Navy in overtime in one of the most dramatic wins of the entire Princeton athletic calendar. This year's version wasn't nearly as close, as Navy built a 13-0 lead after the first quarter and a 23-0 lead at intermission.
Princeton crossed into Navy territory just twice in the first three quarters, and one of those drives ended at the Navy 49. Princeton's best scoring chance saw the Tigers drive to the Navy 18 late in the fourth quarter before turning the ball over on downs.
Navy quarterback Drew McGinly completed 11 of 18 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Midshipmen Roger Callahan carried 20 times for 138 yards and two touchdowns of his own.
Princeton was led by Rikki Racela, who carried 17 times for 45 yards, and Ryan Goudge, who carried six times for 20 yards. Geoff Gasperini completed seven of 16 passes for 63 yards.
Princeton is off this weekend.
