Princeton Sprint Football Tripped Up at Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Princeton University sprint football team dropped to 0-4 on the season with a 75-12 loss to the University of Pennsylvania.
Staking the Quakers to an early lead, Mike McCurdy completed a six-yard touchdown pass to Max Jones on Penn's opening possession. Later in the first, McCurdy hit Brendan Dale for a 40-yard TD to double the margin. Intercepting a Chad Cowden pass on Princeton's ensuing possession, Penn needed just five plays to cover 34 yards, punching in their third score on a 2-yard McCurdy scamper with 35 seconds left in the period.
Hoping to jumpstart the Tigers early in the second quarter, Patrick Yu intercepted a McCurdy pass before returning it 21 yards for Princeton's first points. Blocking the PAT, Penn responded with 21 unanswered points to take a 42-6 lead into the intermission. McCurdy got things started with a 9-yard TD run that made it 28-6 at 11:30 before Jake Klaus rumbled 18 yards to pay-dirt on Penn's next possession to pad the cushion. Zack DiGregorio had the Quakers final touchdown of the half, running it in from two yards out with 5:01 on the clock.
After a 24-yard Jones TD opened the third quarter to extend the lead to 49-6, Princeton got back on the board. Facing a 3rd-and-10 from the Tigers' own 22-yardline, Cowden hit Tyler Kaye for a 78-yard touchdown pass. Coming right back, Penn closed out the game with 26-straight points.
Featuring a balanced attack that featured 259 rushing yards and 221 passing yards, Penn rolled up 480 yards of total offense. Princeton finished with 130 total yards, gaining 139 through the air while losing nine on the ground.
Cowden completed seven of his 24 pass attempts for 137 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Kaye made three catches for 100 yards and a score. Mark Nowicki led Princeton defense with 10.0 tackles (8 solo), while Kris Garris made 9.5 stops (8 solo) and forced a fumble.
Princeton will close out its regular season at home against Chestnut Hill on Friday, Nov. 6.
