PU Sprint Football Team Enters 1999 Season With Confidence
October 08, 1999 | Sprint Football
Princeton's Sprint Football team enters the 1999 season with an air of confidence, aiming to improve on last year's 2-4 record (2-2 CSFL). Under second-year coach Bob DiPipi, the locker room is filled with a sense of purpose as the Tigers look forward to battling this year's opponents. Led by captains Mark Best '00 and Mike Pagnotto '00, the Tigers will field a veteran team with at least 16 returning starters and will rely on its experience and attitude to offset their opponents' advantage in numbers.
Spearheaded by guard and captain Mark Best, the entire starting offensive line returns from last year, along with several new faces who will challenge them for starting spots. Senior Joe Andolina and Junior Geoff Gasperini will take snaps at quarterback this year, with Gasperini splitting time at running back. The ground attack will be led by Jeff Mah '02, who as a freshman ran for more than 300 yards and earned CSFL Player of the Week honors in the overtime victory over Navy. The receivers of choice this year will likely be Paul Hernandez '02 on the outside and Brian Edlow '01 at tight end.
The defense promises to be one of the strongest in recent years under captain Mike Pagnotto, whose aggressive play earned him first team all-league honors two years running. In the trenches, the charge will be led by senior tackle Keith Wallman, who earned all-league honors last year with 33 tackles. Junior defensive end Ki Moon will also be on hand to contribute after leading the '98 squad in quarterback sacks and blocked punts. The defensive backfield will be anchored by junior Jeremy Green, who returns after sustaining a knee injury towards the end of the 1998 season.
