HANOVER, N.H. - Senior defenseman Chris Barber (Alliston, Ont.) found the back of the net with a slap shot at the 10:17 mark in the third period to give Princeton a 5-5 tie on the road against Dartmouth. The score capped a two-goal rally by the Tigers, who were down 5-3 early in the final stanza.
Princeton started the scoring at 2:17 in the opening period, as Shane Campbell (Jr., Red Deer, Alberta) took a pass from David Del Monte (So., Mississaugam Ont.), and scored on the power-play to give the visiting Tigers a 1-0 advatange. Dartmouth tied the game at 1-1 before Princeton rallied with two goals before the first intermission for a 3-1 lead.
Kirk Lamb (Jr., Cold Lake Alberta) netted his first of two goals on the evening at 17:10 in the opening frame with help from Campbell and Benoit Morin (Sr., Montreal, Que.) to give Princeton a 2-1 edge, just minutes before senior captain Darren Yopyk (St. Paul, Alberta) set up the third Tiger goal. Yopyk brought the puck into the Dartmouth zone before passing off to Ethan Doyle (Jr., Marblehead, Mass.) who was cutting down center ice. Doyle beat Dartmouth goaltender Nick Boucher for his first goal of the season. The second period was all Dartmouth, as freshman defenseman Trevor Byrne scored his first two collegiate goals with a 1:10 span to open the stanza. He had an unassisted tally at 3:14 and then scored again at 4:24 on the power play to tie the game at 3-3. The Big Green continued its run of four unanwered goals as Mike Maturo scored the third Dartmouth goal of the second period and Ryan Sinclair opened the third period with a goal at 2:30.
Princeton's rally began at 5:39 of the final stanza with Lamb's second goal of the game, this time on the power play. The junior center completed the first two-goal game of his career with help from sophomore defensemen David Bennett (Warwick, R.I.) and David Schneider (Melrose Park, Ill.).
Bennett had stolen the puck at center ice and fed a pass to Lamb, who went on a 1-on-3 into the Dartmouth zone. Lamb split the first two defensemen, and as the last man for the Big Green tried to push him outside along the boards, he flicked a backhand by Boucher and set the score at 5-4 with just 5:39 elapsed in the period.
Barber's shot from the blueline skimmed through serious traffic in front of the net and knotted tha game at 5-5 less than five minutes later. Princeton dominated the final 15 minutes of the contest and outshot the Big Green 4-3 in overtime to come away with the tie.
Lamb led Princeton with two goal, while Campbell and Doyle each had a goal and an assist. Bennett finished the night with two assists. Princeton went 2 for 5 on the power play, while Dartmouth was 1 for 3.
Goaltender Craig Bradley (Sr., Chalfont, Pa.) made 35 saves, including three in overtime, to preserve the tie for Princeton. Boucher made 31 saves between the pipes for Dartmouth.
Princeton next faces Vermont on Sat., Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
