BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Princeton University men's hockey team fell to 0-3-2 overall and 0-2-2 in the ECAC when it dropped a 6-4 decision to Vermont Saturday night at Gutterson Arena in Vermont.
The Tigers started quickly with a power-play goal by Chris Corrinet at 1:21 of the first period. It marked the fifth straight time that the Tigers have scored on their first power-play opportunity of the game. Graham Mink, Ryan Cox and J.F. Caudron scored Vermont goals in the first period to give the home team a 3-1 lead. Shane Campbell took some of the momentum away with a goal at 19:23 of the period.
After a hard-fought, scoreless second period, Princeton captured the lead when sophomore Brad Parsons scored on a pair of power-play goals to give the Tigers a brief 4-3 lead. He actually had a chance for a natural hat trick, but his penalty shot was saved by Vermont goalie Tim Peters at 1:34 of the period.
Vermont evened the score on an unassisted goal that seemed to bounce off a Princeton defenseman and past Tigers' goalie Dave Stathos. The score gave Vermont and it 3,743 fans the boost they needed. Caudron scored off a perfect pass from Kevin Karlander for the game-winning goal while Jerry Gernander added an insurance goal with eight minutes remaining in the period.
Princeton was outshot 33-26. Dave Stathos made 27 saves but fell to 0-2 on the season. The Tigers, who scored on three of eight chances on the power play, will travel to New Haven, Conn., for an ECAC showdown with Yale next Friday at 7 p.m.
