PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's swimming team opened its 1999-2000 season this afternoon with a double dual meet at DeNunzio Pool. Princeton defeated Cornell and Pennsylvania and is now 2-0 overall.
The Tigers swept two events – the 100 Back and the 500 Free – and placed the top finisher in eight other events. Princeton was led by Molly Seto (Fr., Halifax, Nova Scotia) who won both the 100 Fly and 200 Fly in times of 57.60 and 2:05.42. Seto trailed entering the final 50 meters of the 200 Fly and surged to a stunning finish that earned her a half-second win. Princeton's sweep in the 100 Back was turned in by Kate Conroy (So., Haddonfield, N.J.), who finished in 57.06, and completed by Michelle Nielson (Fr., West Hills, Calif.) and Sangeeta Puri (Jr., Los Angelos, Calif.) who placed second and third with times of 58.52 and 59.53. In the 500 Free, Maura Bolger (Fr., Free Brielle, N.J.) paced Princeton with a time of 4:59.67. She was followed by Sandra Kamholz (So., Thornwood, N.Y.) and Cindy Herrick (So., The Woodlands, Texas), who finished in times of 5:08.72 and 5:11.14.
The Tigers next action will come December 3-5 at the Penn State Invitational, which includes a dual meet against Ivy League rival Brown.
