Back-to-Back Goals Lead Tigers Over Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.J. - Princeton University used two goals in a 47-second span midway through the second half to come from behind and defeat Adelphi, 3-2, in men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Stiles Field.
At 63:09, Princeton's Chris Halupka (Sr., Clifton, NJ) sent a direct kick across the goal mouth and Steve Belmonte (Sr., Philadelphia, PA) headed it home to knot the score at two. Just 47 seconds later at 63:56, Lucas Moskowitz (Fr., Storrs, CT) smacked home a rebound off the post to give Princeton the lead.
Moskowitz also opened the game scoring for Princeton (7-7-1), scoring the game's first goal on a breakaway at 11:40. Adelphi (3-12-1) responded in the 23rd minute. Sophomore Robin Lee (Wakefield, England) attempted a pass into the box, however, the Princeton defender's effort to clear the pass deflected off the goal post to Panther freshman Teemu Juutilainen (Helsinki, Finland). Juutilainen tapped the ball into the net for his fifth goal of the season, knotting the match at one at 22:36.
The Panthers would take the lead in the 32nd minute on a corner kick. Sophomore Paul Stewart (Dublin, Ireland) took the corner and Juutilainen got his head on the ball, deflecting it to senior Sami Terava (Helsinki, Finland). Terava pushed the ball towards the net where freshman Luke Poduszczak (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst H.S.) hammered it home for his second goal of the year and a 2-1 Panther lead at 31:07.
However, Princeton took the victory with the back-to-back second half goals.
The Tigers outshot Adelphi, 17-6 and also held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Panther senior goalkeeper Mikko Koivu (Klaukkala, Finland) recorded seven saves in the loss, while Princeton keeper Jeff Gillie (Fr., Scotch Plains, NJ) had one save.
Princeton will make its final home appearance on Saturday, Nov. 7. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
