Princeton Runs Away at H.Y.P.

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton University women's swimming and diving team competed at Yale University for the prestigious H.Y.P. meet. The Tigers came home victorious with a victory. The Scores for the three teams were Princeton, 375, Harvard, 268, Yale 257. Princeton notched first place finishes in nine events to go along with seven-second place finishes.
In the 100-meter breaststroke, Jenny Macaulay (Fr., Etobicoke, Ontario) finished first in 1:05.45, while teammate Kristen Szumera (So., Hazlet, N.J.) was less than a second behind in second place at 1:06.97. Macaulay and Szumera also finished first and second in the 200-meter breaststroke with times of 2:19.60 and 2:20.23 respectively. Macaulay won the trifecta, by bringing home the 200-meter individual medley in a time of 2:06.00
Valeria Kukla (Fr., Maple Glen, Pa.) won the 1000-meter freestyle with a time of 10:14.72. She out-swam her teammate Tara Martin (Jr., Bellevue, Wash.) who finished second with a time of 10:15.06. Kate Conroy (Fr., Haddonfield, N.J.) brought home the 100-meter backstroke title with a time of 56.19. Alyson Goodner (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.) won the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:05.72. In the 50-meter freestyle, Bess Frank (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) won with a time of 24.26.
Erin Lutz (So., Hopewell, N.J.) won the one-meter diving contest with a point total of 290.05 while Katherine Mattison (Fr., Darien, Conn.) took second with 270.40 points. Lutz also notched a second place performance in the three-meter diving with a point total of 272.15.
In the relay competition, the 200-medley team finished first with a total time of 1:46.31.
The Tigers will next get geared up for the Ivy League championships to be held February 25-27 at DeNunzio Pool.
