NEW YORK, N.Y. - Princeton overcame the emotion created by Columbia's last home meet of the season and defeated the Lions in women's swimming today, 138-95, at Uris Swimming Center. The Ivy League victory broke a five-meet Columbia win streak, extended the Tigers' win streak to eight, and gave Princeton coach Susan Teeter her 100th career victory.
Princeton finished first and second in the meet's opening event, the 200-yard medley relay, to take a 15-2 lead, and never trailed. The Tigers captured seven of the 10 individual races, and took most of the seconds and thirds.
The Princeton divers were exceptional. Danielle Stramandi won the one-meter dive with a score of 296.625, a school and pool record, while Page Pearcy won the three-meter dive with another pool record, 315.525.
The Tigers had to be good to overcome Columbia All-America Cristina Teuscher. The senior, appearing in her last home meet, won the 100-yard freestyle in a Columbia and pool-record 50.64 seconds, won the 400 individual medley in 4:11.11, also a pool record, and anchored two victorious relays, the 800 freestyle and 200 freestyle.
Princeton is now 8-0 overall, 7-0 in the Ivy League. Columbia fell to 5-2-1 overall, 2-2-1 in the Ivy League.
