Princeton Shutout In Season Finale
November 10, 2000 | Sprint Football
Nov. 10, 2000
PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The Penn Quakers finished their 2000 season undefeated with a 21-0 victory over the Tigers to take the Collegiate Sprint Football League Championship Friday night at Franklin Field. Quakers' running back Robert Reeves set the tone in the second quarter with a 60-yard run, and that would be all the Quakers needed to defeat the Tigers.
The Tigers were led on defense by sophomore defensive linemen Brian Mickus, who collected a game-high 11 unassisted tackles. Mickus also picked up a game-high three sacks. The Tigers spent much of the game running the football, with Robin Clarke getting 22 carries and Geoff Gasperini contributing with 15, but yardage was hard to come by against the Quakers stingy defense. The Quakers defense held the Tigers to just 4 receptions for 30 yards, while the Quakers connected for seven receptions and 130 yards. The Quakers attack featured eight different players with at least one carry. The Quakers' top receiver, Mark Gannon picked up a six-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 Quakers. Robert Reeves capped the scoring with his second touchdown of the game.
This game marks the end of the first season for Princeton's head coach, Keith Wadsworth. This was the final game for the following Princeton seniors: David Liu, Geoff Gasperini, Jeremy Green, Robin Clarke, David Mordkoff, Ryan Bonfiglio, Ki Moon, Brett Otteson, Mark Holveck, Matthew Thomas, Zach Berbit, Joseph Himowitz and Mike Piazza.
