New Haven, Conn. - Princeton defeated Yale 3-1 on Saturday night with stellar goaltending from Stathos and the return of juniors David Schneider and Josh Roberts to the lineup. These two young men took just over two minutes to help give Princeton a 1-0 lead as Schneider put a slap shot by Yale's Dan Lombard off of a nice feed from Roberts.
"Getting that early goal really calmed my nerves a little bit, " commented Schneider about returning with an instant goal.
While Princeton went to the dressing room with a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period, Yale controlled the play in the early stanza.
The Tigers struck on the power play to score the only goal of the second period when Chris Corrinet knocked in his sixth goal of the season at 17:20. Corrinet's goal came off of nice tic-tac-toe passing from Brad Parsons and Kirk Lamb. The Bulldogs struck early in the third period with the benefit of a Jeff Hamilton slap shot from the left point, which Stathos had no chance of stopping. Hamilton's goal came on the power play.
Fortune was with the Tigers tonight, however, as Parsons would score the easiest goal of his hockey career to finish the scoring. The redheaded Princeton junior shot from the left wing and did not score initially, but Yale's Spencer Rodgers knocked the puck in his own net off the rebound. The Tigers were happy to get the win at sold-out Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn., and were happy to see a bounce go their way for a change.
Princeton will play at Colgate and Cornell next Friday and Saturday. Game times for both are 7 p.m.
