Weekend One-Timers
Class-ic success -- The Class of 2000 continues to build on its record-setting careers at Princeton. The current senior class has been part of 65 victories, more than any other hockey class in school history. More class -- The seniors will graduate with at least two banners as part of their legacy. They were sophomores when Princeton won its first ECAC tournament title in 1998 and were juniors when Princeton took last year's Ivy title, it's first since 1953.
Climbing Ivy -- Princeton can clinch a third banner this weekend. With a win against Harvard and a tie between Brown and Yale, the Tigers will clinch a share of the title Friday night. Otherwise, a sweep of Harvard and Brown guarantees the outright championship.
The Baker's home cookin' -- This will be the final regular-season weekend at home for Princeton. The seniors come into this weekend with a 28-15-10 record at Baker Rink over the last three years.
Good news, bad news -- Princeton hasn't lost to Harvard at home over the past three years and hasn't beaten Brown at home in that same span.
Hot, Hot, Hot -- Princeton is one of two ECAC teams currently riding a three-game winning streak. Colgate is the other.
I'm honored -- Kirk Lamb and Dave Stathos were both named to the ECAC Honor Roll last week. Lamb scored a goal and added two assists while Stathos made 34 saves for his eighth win.
First down -- Harvard is currently in ninth place in the ECAC. In the first meeting between the teams this season, the Crimson was in first place when Princeton skated out of the Bright Center with a 4-2 victory.
Then again -- The other half of that weekend series saw last-place Brown rally from a third-period deficit to defeat Princeton 2-1 at Meehan Auditorium.
Rallying cry -- The loss to Brown was the first time in 46 opportunities that the Tigers have lost a game they led after two periods. The last time it happened was Jan. 12, 1996, when the Tigers saw a 2-1 lead vanish in a 5-3 loss at Vermont.
Lamb-inated -- Kirk Lamb leads the team with 18 assists and 24 points. He is tied with RPI's Matt Murley for first in the ECAC with 16 conference assists (0.94 assists/game).
Third and goal -- Only Colgate has scored more goals (31) in the third period than Princeton in ECAC games. The Tigers have 22 goals in the final period. Natural Born Killers -- Princeton has successfully killed off 15 of its opponents' 16 power plays during its current winning streak.
A bad omen -- Princeton's 4-2 win at Harvard set off a rough stretch for the Crimson. Since then, Harvard has dropped from first place to ninth and has a record of 2-7-1, with only one win being in the ECAC.
A Stirling performance -- Solid goaltending helped Brown rally for its win over Princeton in January. Despite outshooting the Bears 50-20, Princeton could get only one shot past Scott Stirling. His career-high 49 saves led Brown to a 2-1 win.
Power players -- Seven Tigers have at least half their goals this season on the power play. They are Brad Parsons (7/10), Kirk Lamb (5/6), David Schneider (5/5), Chris Corrinet (5/9), Brad Meredith (1/2), George Parros (1/2) and Ryan Kraliz (1/2).
Even Strength -- Three Tigers are tied for the team lead in even-strength goals. Benoit Morin, Shane Campbell and Josh Roberts each have five.
Stat-hos -- Goaltender Dave Stathos has had some of his best performances in Ivy League games. He has a 4-1-0 record this season with a 1.81 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage.
More Stats -- In seven of Stathos' eight wins, he has limited the opponents to two goals or less, including the first win at Harvard. He has limited the opposition to two goals or fewer in 14 of his 20 career wins, although he doesn't have a shutout to his credit.
The plus pair -- Two Tigers are tied for the team in plus/minus. Senior defenseman Chris Barber and freshman forward Scott Prime are both a +3.
