Weekend One-Timers
A New Jersey State of Mind -- Princeton will host a first-round series in the ECAC postseason for the second straight year if the Tigers sweep this weekend or get a win and a tie. The Tigers defeated Cornell three points to one last year in the only first-round series ever to be held at Baker Rink. Sweep Dreams -- Princeton swept Colgate (5-1) and Cornell (5-2) in a December series at Baker Rink.
Sweep Dreams II -- Four of the last five Cornell/Colgate weekends have been sweeps for the home teams, including both series last year. Princeton defeated Cornell 3-2 and Colgate 2-1 at Baker Rink and lost to Colgate 3-1 and Cornell 8-4 on the road.
Class-ic success -- The Class of 2000 continues to build on its record-setting careers at Princeton. The current senior class has been part of 66 victories, more than any other hockey class in school history.
Oh captain, my captain -- Senior Darren Yopyk broke his leg during Friday's loss against Harvard and will not be able to play the rest of the season.
Triple A -- After captain Darren Yopyk broke his leg, seniors Benoit Morin, Brad Meredith and Chris Barber each wore the assistant's `A' on their jerseys during Saturday's win over Brown.
Climbing Ivy -- Princeton can clinch a second straight Ivy League banner this weekend with a win or tie against Cornell. The Tigers currently have 11 points in Ivy League play, one fewer than Harvard. The Crimson have no Ivy games left.
First down -- Colgate was in first place in the ECAC when the Tigers won 5-1 at Baker Rink. The Red Raiders are one of two first-place teams in the ECAC that the Tigers have defeated this season. Harvard was the other team.
Only unlucky for Colgate -- Princeton coach Don Cahoon has more wins against Colgate (13) than against any other ECAC team.
Box-ing -- Last season's contest at Lynah Rink was a record-setting performance in terms of penalties. The two teams combined for 148 penalty minutes, 24 more than any other game in Tiger history. Princeton received 22 penalties for 76 minutes, while Cornell received 20 penalties for 72 minutes.
Rallying cry -- Princeton rallied from deficits of 2-0, 4-1 and 5-4 to defeat Cornell in the decisive second game of last year's ECAC first-round series. The Tigers then rallied to defeat Colgate 3-2 in the Final Five game at Lake Placid.
Third and goal -- Princeton has scored 23 goals in the third period, third best in the ECAC. Colgate leads the league with 32 goals in the third period. I'm honored-- Kirk Lamb was named to the ECAC Honor Roll for the second consecutive week after scoring two goals and adding an assist in the win over Brown.
I'm honored II -- Dave Stathos was named ECAC Goaltender of the Week for the second time this year after he recorded victories over both Colgate and Cornell in December. He had a .953 save percentage and a 1.50 GAA during that weekend.
Mass. Production -- The line of Brad Parsons (Kingston, Mass.), Ethan Doyle (Marblehead, Mass.) and Chris Corrinet (Greenfield, Mass.) have been one of the Tigers' better lines over the last three weeks.
Thirty-one flavors -?Princeton enters the weekend with 31 goals on the power play. Only Colgate comes into the weekend with more (36). Brad Parsons is second in the ECAC with seven power-play goals, one behind Colgate's Andy McDonald.
Power players -- Seven Tigers have at least half their goals this season on the power play. They are Brad Parsons (7/10), Kirk Lamb (6/8), David Schneider (5/5), Chris Corrinet (5/9), Brad Meredith (1/2), George Parros (1/2) and Ryan Kraliz (1/2).
Three for three -- Benoit Morin needs only three more penalty minutes to become the first Tiger to reach 100 minutes for three consecutive seasons.
Tiebreak talk -?Princeton's head-to-head record against the teams it will be battling with for home ice in the ECAC postseason:
