No. 3 Princeton Edges Brown 10-9 In Regular Season Finale

Providence, R.I. - It took a come-from-behind effort, but the third-ranked Princeton Tigers edged out a 10-9 victory over host Brown in women's lacrosse action Saturday on Stevenson Field. Lauren Simone and Kim Smith combined for seven of the Tigers' 10 goals on the afternoon, including Smith's game-winner on a free position with 15:53 to go in the game.
The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and led 4-1, the game's biggest margin, midway through the opening stanza. Princeton would chip away, closing out the first half with four unanswered scores, including two by Simone, and adding another just moments into the second half to extend the Tiger lead to 7-5. The game's final five tallies were all free position shots, with both Brown's Niki Caggiano and Princeton's Laura Field (sr., Mystic, Conn.) shutting down the scoring after Smith's free position tally at the 14:07 mark.
Caggiano would finish with 18 saves in goal for Brown, while Field and Jennie Platt (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) split time in net for Princeton. The duo combined for 16 saves on the afternoon. Simone and Brown's Emily Boynton each scored four times, while Princeton Smith's tallied three goals. Nina Carbone (So., Carle Place, N.Y.), Julie Shaner (Jr., Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) and Whitney Miller (Fr., Bishopville, Md.) also scored for the Tigers, while Brown's Cristi Gigon scored twice, and Lauren Klein, Tonie Karbe and Lauren Brunswick all added scores.
Princeton finishes the regular season 13-3, 6-1 Ivy, and awaits an at-large NCAA bid to extend its season. Selections will be made on May 7.
