Princeton, N.J. - The Harvard Crimson extended Princeton's losing streak to seven games by winning 4-3 on Friday night. While the Tigers were able to get out to a 2-0 lead, the Crimson were able to cash in on a myriad of Princeton mistakes to win the hockey game. The game-winner, which was scored by Dominic Moore, came while Princeton was on the power play. Princeton had a number of good chances late, the best coming when Chris Corrinet failed to beat Harvard goalie, Oliver Jonas, on a breakaway attempt in the last minute of play.
Princeton freshman and Boston suburbanite, Chris Owen, scored his first career collegiate goal off a great feed from George Parros at 8:22 of the first period. The Tigers would tack on a second goal on the power play at 11:36 of the first period, as David Schneider scored from the left point. Brad Parsons and Chris Corrinet received assists on Schneider's goal. The first period ended with Princeton up 2-0, but the Tigers entered the second stanza trying to kill off a two-man advantage for Harvard. One second before Princeton's Tommy Colclough was scheduled to leave the penalty box to give Princeton four defenders, Peter Capouch beat goalie Dave Stathos at 0:49 of the second period. Harvard would score on another mistake at 6:04 of the second period when Lawrenceville Prep graduate, Harry Schwefel, caught a Princeton defenseman out of position. Schwefel skated in all alone and was able to get the puck by Stathos to tie the game up.
The Crimson would take advantage of sloppy puck movement in the Princeton end when Tyler Kolarik scored his seventh goal of the season at 11:19 of the second period.
Princeton capitalized on a defensive-zone turnover at 12:39 of the second period when David Del Monte beat Jonas to even the score. Tommy Colclough stole the puck, skated around the net to Jonas' right and found a wide-open Del Monte on the doorstep.
The Tigers gave up a short-handed goal to Dominic Moore with 2:30 left in the second period when a Princeton defenseman had his pocket picked.
The men of Old Nassau had a number of solid scoring opportunities late in the third period, but were unable to score. Corrinet skated in alone and could not beat Jonas with about half a minute left, as a Harvard defenseman was able to get a stick on the puck.
"Everyone in our dressing room played hard tonight. The game we played tonight and the games against Bowling Green last weekend were like night and day, " said Princeton coach Len Quesnelle.
The Princeton mistakes leading to Harvard goals were on both captain Kirk Lamb's and assistant captain Corrinet's mind after the frustrating 4-3 loss on Friday night.
"When we make a mistake, the other team is able to capitalize by scoring a goal, " commented Lamb after the game.
"When we get a turnover, we are not scoring goals as often as our opponents, " uttered a disgusted Corrinet.
The Tigers host Brown tomorrow night at Baker Rink at 7:00 p.m.
