Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton men's fencing team won its first contest of the new millennium by knocking off Stevens Tech 18-9. While Stevens Tech is not known as a college fencing power, Princeton coach Michel Sebastiani did not take them lightly.
"Many of our best fencers are competing at the Junior Olympics right now, and we will have to count on some of our less experienced kids, to do well in competition on Saturday, " said Sebastiani.
The Stevens Tech Ducks won the ep?e competition 7-2 as freshman standout Soren Thompson (San Diego, Calif.) was competing at the Junior Olympics this weekend.
Princeton won the foil competition behind the strong 3-0 performances of Jonathan Jew-Lim (Fr., Palo Alto, Calif.) and Dustin Regan (Sr., Oklahoma City, Okla.).
The Tigers swept the sabre competition 9-0, which was the deciding factor in Saturday's victory. Senior captain Terry Kim (Wyckoff, N.J.) and sophomore Mike Brosterman (Short Hills, N.J.) both went 2-0 for the Tigers.
Princeton's next match will be against Rutgers, St. John's, Columbia and Vassar at Jadwin Gymnasium on February 3, 2001 at 10 a.m.
