Lee Makes Semifinals as Men's Fencers Close Competition at NCAAs
March 21, 2025 | Men's Fencing
Brandon Lee qualified for the NCAA foil semifinals as the men's competition came to a close for the Princeton fencers at the NCAA Championships on Friday at Penn State.
Lee fell 15-9 to top-seeded Andrew Chen of Harvard after Chen scored eight consecutive touches to turn around a 7-6 Lee lead and put Chen a touch away from winning the bout. Lee then won consecutive points before Chen scored the winning touch.
Lee, a junior, sophomore épée Alec Brooke, who finished seventh, and senior épée Nicholas Lawson, who finished ninth, earned All-American honors while senior saber Ronald Anglade placed 13th, and sophomore foil Ethan Um placed 20th.
It's the second All-American honor for Lee, who earned the status as a freshman in 2023, the second for Lawson, who also did so as a rookie in 2022, and the first for Brooke.
As a team, Princeton will enter the start of the women's competition on Saturday in fourth place with 62 wins. Notre Dame leads with 87 wins while Columbia is second with 77, both with 138 bouts remaining to pick up points, and St. John's is third with 76 wins and 69 bouts remaining. Princeton has 115 bouts remaining.
The women's competition will start Saturday at 9 a.m. Five Tigers have qualified, with two in saber (Alexandra Lee, Emese Domonkos), one in foil (Chin-Yi Kong) and two in épée (Leehi Machulsky, Hadley Husisian).
