PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Rachael Becker (Broomall, Pa.) scored just five minutes into the game off of an assist from junior Ilvy Friebe (Bonn, Germany) and Princeton (9-2, 3-0), ranked 7th in the nation, never looked back en route to a 5-1 win over Brown (5-5, 1-2) in Ivy League action Saturday afternoon played at Warner Roof.
Becker put the Tigers on the board on a that started with a penalty corner just 5:38 into the contest. Freshman Natalie Martirosian (Richmond, Va.) scored on a penalty stroke just one minute later to give Princeton an early 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Claire Miller (Scarsdale, N.Y.), who led the Tigers in assists going into this afternoon's game, scored her first goal of the season at 21:39 off of an assist from Friebe. Junior co-captain Emily Townsend (Houston, Texas) gave Princeton a 4-0 lead on a penalty corner with assists from Friebe and Miller. Friebe then added a goal of her own at 7:52 to give the Tigers a 5-0 lead going into the intermission. Brown got a goal from Molly Carleton with 24:07 remaining on the ears' only corner of the contest. Ashley Wallace took a shot from the top of the circle and it was tipped in by Carleton for Brown's only score of the day.
Junior co-captain Kelly Baril (Peabody, Mass.) had to make just one save as Princeton held a 21-4 shot advantage on the day. Kathryn Noe got the start for Brown but was replaced by Annie Owens just 13:21 into the game after allowing three goals while making one assist. Owens closed out the contest with 11 saves and two goals allowed.
The Tigers return to action tomorrow when they host Connecticut in a non-conference match up at 1 p.m. at Class of 1952 Stadium
