Washington, D.C. - Matt Behncke scored with three minutes left in regulation to take Princeton and American into overtime nodded at 3-3. The two teams battled for 120 minutes and for the second straight game Princeton came away with a tie.
The Tigers scored first when Mike Nugent connected on his seventh goal of the season at the 7:10 mark. American's Andrew Herman answered with two goals of his own and the Eagles led 2-1 at the half. Princeton, however, came out quickly in the second half when Marty Shaw finished off a Teddy van Beuren cross 10 minutes into the period to tie the score at 2-2.
Herman completed the hat trick with his third goal at 66:41 and American led until Behncke's fourth goal of the year sent the game into overtime. Herman came close to scoring his fourth goal of the game, but Princeton goalkeeper Jason White made a spectacular save in the second overtime to preserve the tie. White finished with 11 saves, four of which came in the two overtime sessions.
Princeton, ranked No. 17 this week by the NSCAA national poll, moves to 5-2-4 on the year. American is now 5-6-1. The Tigers return home, were they are 2-0-2, next Friday to face Ivy League foe Cornell at 7:30 p.m. Princeton is 2-1-1 in conference play.
